The school

Once they have passed the audition, aspiring dancers are placed—depending on their age—either in lower secondary school classes (alongside students who do not study dance) or in the afternoon Linguistic High School program created specifically for them.

The autonomy entails:

  • at the lower secondary school: the addition of a fourth hour of English and the retention of a second European language (Spanish, French, or German), an acting course integrated into the school timetable, a one-hour religion module, and an hour of school choir.
  • at the afternoon-session Linguistic High School, the substitution of some Physical Education hours with dance classes.

The school timetable aims, as far as possible, for an equitable distribution of academic subjects across the various afternoons of the week, encouraging lower secondary school dance students to organize their afternoon (and—within certain limits—sometimes evening) activities by effectively balancing study time with dance time.

Visit to the Marcelline Institute

Boarding and residence

AUB’s national and international vocation has, from the very beginning, necessitated a boarding service for student dancers enrolled in lower secondary school and the afternoon linguistic high school program.
This is not, of course, merely a matter of providing “logistical accommodation” for dancers arriving from all over Italy and abroad. Indeed, the boarding facility plays a vital role in achieving the ultimate goal shared by AUB and the Marcelline order: helping dancers—within a serene, dedicated, and highly professional environment—to realize their dream of dance, while fostering a humanity worthy of the beauty they practice and to which they aspire.
The boarding facility can currently accommodate approximately 95 students, ranging from the first to the eighth year of the academy; students in years one through five are housed in the "historic" complex at Via Quadronno 15, while older students—from the sixth to the eighth year—stay at the S. Marcellina university residence, also attached to the school and dance studios, at Via Quadronno 23.
In any case, the layout is contained within a single “dance campus,” comprising dance facilities, classrooms, a boarding residence, a dining hall, and areas dedicated to necessary—albeit brief, given the pace of daily life—relaxation.
Students from both sectors are supported by two tutors who work in close coordination with each other and with the school and academy leadership (principals, the AUB director, and the head of the Marcelline community at Quadronno).

Art, Education, and Culture Project

The Academy’s educational offering stems from two needs:

  • the need to give scope and life to the young people's particular areas of excellence
  • the desire to provide these artists with a cultural—and, for that very reason, human—education

For this reason, the School and the Academy are deeply intertwined entities that “mutually recognize the educational value of their respective institutional activities, which are oriented towards the well-being of the human person in both physical and developmental terms.”

In September 2017, the Ukrainian Ballet Academy was recognized as a SCHOOL providing “educational and training services within the areas defined by the school administration’s regulatory framework.” On that occasion—and to mark the inauguration of the new premises—the Academy and the Institute proudly and happily welcomed a visit from Minister Fedeli.
This is a crucial milestone that embodies the values ​​of the *Arte Formazione e Cultura* project—an initiative born solely from the desire to provide a solid cultural and personal foundation for young people wishing to dedicate themselves to classical dance. Over the years, the results have been swift to follow, both in the realm of dance—with performances at the Teatro Arcimboldi and international tours—and in academics, as evidenced by final assessment results and, above all, the State Exams.
