UKRAINSKAIA AKADEMIA BALETI
INTERNATIONAL CENTRE FOR THE DEVELOPMENT OF CHOREOGRAPHIC ART
THE SEAT OF THE ACADEMY IN KIEV
UKRAINSKAIA AKADEMIA BALETI - INTERNATIONAL CENTRE FOR THE DEVELOPMENT OF CHOREOGRAPHIC ART was founded by Alvina Kalchenko, former Prima Ballerina of the Kiev Opera House and Honoured Artist of the former USSR, who is now its artistic director. In 1995, the UKRAINSKAIA AKADEMIA BALETI - INTERNATIONAL CENTRE FOR THE DEVELOPMENT OF CHOREOGRAPHIC ART arrived in Italy to spread the tradition of the Vaganova method in the art of classical ballet. In 2005, it was divided into two separate realities with different objectives, both aiming at improving the overall situation in the Italian dance panorama:
UKRAINIAN BALLET ACADEMY (A.U.B.)
The Ukrainian Ballet Academy, originally based at the Istituto delle Marcelline in Milan, operates as a PROFESSIONAL TRAINING SCHOOL FOR PROFESSIONAL DANCERS, offering daily classes for students aged 11 to 20, with a total of 12 to 18/20 hours of weekly study. In collaboration with the Istituto delle Marcelline, the Academy provides all students the opportunity to attend middle and high school, as well as benefit from an on-campus boarding facility.
Thanks to the study of the classical repertoire from the very first courses, one of AUB's great strengths is its theatrical productions, renowned for their artistic quality, comparable to those of professional companies. This not only offers students an opportunity for growth and visibility but also helps promote the art of ballet to a wider audience. Furthermore, the performances always feature the extraordinary participation of international étoiles as principal dancers, adding even more value to the shows and enriching the stage experience of its students.
Since 2014, the AUB year-end performance has been officially and permanently included in the season of the TAM Teatro Arcimboldi Milan. From this moment, a fruitful and ongoing collaboration with the Theater began, leading to a natural evolution of the partnership starting in the 2020/2021 academic year: the Academy found its second home at the TAM Teatro Arcimboldi Milan, which became its second location.
The highly successful collaboration between TAM and AUB led, in 2022, to the launch of a new three-year Contemporary Dance Advanced Training Program called "Formazione TAM," with the Teatro Arcimboldi as its main venue. This project aims to explore new educational and artistic opportunities.
In addition to TAM and the Istituto delle Marcelline, in 2023 the Academy further expanded by opening a new branch—from the first to the third course—at the prestigious Teatro Lirico in Cagliari.
INTERNATIONAL BALLET CENTER - UKRAINE (C.I.B.U.)
The Italian branch is located at the DANZA & DANZA dance school in Cinisello Balsamo. The representatives for Italy are CATERINA CALVINO PRINA and ANITA MOSER. In Italy, the INTERNATIONAL BALLET CENTER aims to spread the Vaganova Method in schools where students have the opportunity to study two to four times a week. To this end, the Center's teachers, supervised by Ms. Kalchenko, have created specific programs based on the professional Vaganova Method. The International Ballet Center of Ukraine also organizes TEACHER TRAINING COURSES held at the Ukrainian Ballet Academy in Milan.
